Crime PreventionWelcome to our crime prevention web site. Crime prevention's job is to encourage the public to form community watch programs along with programs, signs and support of their efforts. High crime rates, long associated with city life, has finally come to the North Carolina countryside. This is because criminals have finally realized that the very things that make living in the country so good also make it a good place to commit crime. But there are several solutions to the problem of crime. Community watch is neighbors getting together with one another and their local law enforcement officers in order to do something about crime. If you are interested in starting a community watch in your area please contact Detective Eric Southerland @ (910) 296-2150. McGruff is well used in our county, making many appearances at safety events, children day care centers, and schools. Children are also given Halloween trick-or-treat bags containing safety tips. TRIAD: Triad has recently been an addition to crime prevention. This consists of the Sheriff, Police Chief's and older or retired leaders in the community who agree to work together to reduce criminal victimization of the elderly NATIONAL NIGHT OUT: Every year, the National Town Watch Association invites communities to participate in National Night Out Against Crime. Crime prevention has taken a positive step in crime and arson prevention at our local churches. By visiting each church they were advised the following.
